Jamie Carragher is tipping Harvey Elliott to have a huge season at Liverpool this time around.

The 18-year-old attacker dazzled on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship last season.

Elliott, who joined Liverpool from Fulham two years ago, contributed to 18 goals in 41 second-tier games for Rovers – seven goals, 11 assists.

And speaking to Press Association, club legend Carragher believes that the youngster is ready for Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad and claims that he can be a natural replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri.

He said: “He was outstanding last season, one of the best players in the Championship for such a young lad. I actually see Harvey coming in and taking the place of Shaqiri, really, who I think will move on, and he will have that role in the squad.”

“He is a player of huge quality and I am sure he is going to have a massive Liverpool future and, when you have someone who has that quality, it doesn’t matter about his age, you have to give them their head. I’d imagine Harvey Elliott will be getting 15 to 20 games this season.”

Confidence

The most striking thing about Elliott, along with the ability, is his confidence.

This is a player who already believes that he’s good enough to play for Liverpool and that’s the sort of mentality which fans of the Anfield club absolutely love.

But this is also a player who only has four Premier League games under his belt and therefore he will need time to adapt.

That being said, the Championship is a very difficult league in terms of physicality and he adapted to that like a duck to water.

So it wouldn’t be surprising to see Carragher’s prophecy materialise and see Elliott playing as many as 20 senior games under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this season.
