Speaking on Stadium Astro, Kevin Campbell has been full of praise for Alexandre Lacazette after his performance against West Ham on Wednesday.
All eyes were on Lacazette heading into the game as he took the captain’s armband after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the role.
Arsenal came away as 2-0 winners, and Campbell was blown away by Lacazette’s performance.

Campbell was full of praise for the Frenchman.
“I thought Lacazette was outstanding today. He put in a captain’s performance. He really did what the team needed, he won fouls when he needed to, made the first goal, but he never let the team down and he kept going. He’s captain for now, but he only has six months of his contract left,” Campbell said.
Brilliant
Imagine being a striker getting this sort of praise in a game where you missed a penalty and failed to score? How well do you have to play to earn that sort of credit?
Lacazette, simply put, was brilliant against West Ham. He linked up the play brilliantly in the attack, and after the Hammers’ red card, he continuously took up dangerous spaces in order to create gaps in the defence.
Campbell says that he never let the team down, and even though he missed a penalty, he’s absolutely right.
The Frenchman certainly staked his claim to be the next permanent Arsenal captain, and who knows? Perhaps a new contract could also be on the table in the coming weeks.
