Well, Aaron Ramsdale is certainly making Edu look a little foolish at Arsenal.
Despite Arsenal losing 4-0 to Liverpool on Saturday, Ramsdale emerged from the game with his burgeoning reputation in tact.
That’s because the scoreline could – and would – have been much worse if not for the Gunners’ goalkeeper.
Ramsdale has been the North Londoners’ best player by a million miles this season following a £24 million move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
A lot of supporters raised an eyebrow over that price-tag – and so did Edu, Arsenal’s technical director.
According to The Athletic, Edu wasn’t keen on the 23-year-old and it was Mikel Arteta who had to fight for his signing.
Anfield was another example of how Arteta made a brilliant decision on this front.
And former Arsenal hitman Kevin Campbell gave him a 9/10 rating, labelling him ‘outstanding’.
He told The Highbury Squad on YouTube, when asked for his rating: “Nine. He was outstanding today. He kept the score down. He was outstanding. He had to be.”
Volumes
It does say quite a lot about Arsenal that we’re talking about their goalkeeper every week.
But regardless of that, Ramsdale, who earns £35,000 per week, is proving revelation in North London and probably even the best signing in terms of quality and value in the post-Arsene Wenger period.
He is bound to have a rough patch eventually, as any and every goalkeeper does but, for now, the youngster is invaluable for the North Londoners and long may it continue.
