Ryan Giggs hailed the ‘brilliant’ Neco Williams after Liverpool’s exciting youngster produced another eye-catching display during Wales’ 1-0 UEFA Nations League triumph over Bulgaria, while speaking to Sky Sports.
This time last year, few outside of Melwood knew this Wrexham-born starlet from Adam.
Now, Williams is not only an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at the reigning Premier League champions, he is also on the verge of becoming one of the first names on Wales’ team-sheet.
A month after scoring the only goal of the game against Bulgaria in Cardiff, the 19-year-old produced another match-winning display against the same opposition, crunching into tackles at one end before setting up Jonny Williams’ winner at the other.
Not a bad way to mark your full international debut.
“I thought Neco, on his first start, was outstanding. Neco was brilliant, he’s done really well since he’s come into the team,” said the Manchester United legend, who was also full of praise for debutant Rhys Norrington-Davies.
Of course, Williams has a mountain to climb if he is to overhaul Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool’s first choice full-back.
But, with a gruelling fixture schedule on the horizon, a man capable of playing on the right or the left will have a big part to play for club and country before the European Championships kick off next summer.
