Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been waxing-lyrical about Andy Robertson.

The Reds are enjoying what could end up being the greatest season in their long and storied history, and while the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz get praise on a weekly basis, one of the Reds’ more unsung heroes is Andy Robertson.

However, Alexander-Arnold is more than willing to give the full-back his dues, claiming that he’s one of the best left-backs in Premier League history.

What’s been said?

Alexander Arnold was full of praise for Robertson.

“For me, the biggest thing about Robbo is his consistency. That’s the hardest thing in football. You can have a good game and a lot of players will have a good game or 10 good games or a good season but it’s very hard to continue that over many seasons and to continuously guarantee you’re going to be a solid player for every single game.

“Off the top of my head I can’t really remember ever coming off the pitch and thinking, ‘Robbo’s had a bad game there.’

“He offers so much for us. There’s the consistency across the board and then also the fact that so far he’s not had many injuries where he’s missed many games, which is also a quality in itself – to always be fit for every game and be ready to be picked.

“For the last few years he has been outstanding. For me, he will go down as one of the best left-backs that this league has ever seen.”

Up there with the best

For the longest time, Ashley Cole has, by and large, been considered the best left-back in Premier League history, but now, there may be a new challenger to his throne.

Indeed, Robertson has taken his game to a new level, and while he may not have the trophy cabinet to match Cole’s, his performance levels are right up there.

At the age of 28, Robertson still has a number of chapters to write in his story, but don’t be surprised if he goes down as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever by the time he’s finished.
