Caomihin Kelleher is set for his biggest-ever Liverpool appearance on Sunday as he prepares to make the starting lineup against Chelsea.
Liverpool could win their first piece of silverware of the season at Wembley for a League Cup final.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed that the 23-year-old Irish goalkeeper would be starting ahead of Alisson between the sticks.
Alisson is one of the world’s finest goalkeepers, but Kelleher has played three League Cup outings already this season.
It’s a risky decision by Klopp but Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has zero concerns.
The midfielder, a £20 million signing in 2011, has described Kelleher – an academy product out of Kirkby – as ‘outstanding’ and fully believes in his younger teammate.
He told a press conference via Liverpool’s official YouTube: “I think he’s been outstanding. All the games he has come in he’s been outstanding in everything he has done. He’s a fantastic lad, very level-headed and as a keeper: shot-stopping is fantastic, distribution is amazing – and so calm as well.”
