It was another episode of the Mike Dean show on Saturday, and this time, he sent off Thomas Soucek for an ‘elbow’ on Aleksandar Mitrovic during West Ham’s goalless draw at Fulham.

John Terry labelled the decision as ‘outrageous’ on Instagram and made it clear that it ‘never was a red card’.

At first, the Aston Villa coach was reacting on his Instagram story to the decision, where he wrote: ‘Never a red card. There is no way he has meant that.’

He then posted further comments on Danny Murphy’s Instagram post, where both were annoyed at what they had just seen.

@dannymurphy_13 outrageous decision after watching it 20 times,” wrote Terry. “I see it once and knew 100% it was an accident.”

The decision itself didn’t affect the game because it happened in stoppage-time, but West Ham do have a number of crucial matches coming up, so it will be a major problem on that front.

Every week, both the on-field referee and VAR, seem to make an utter mess of situations, with simplicity, passion, enjoyment and common sense now gone out of the game.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes escaped a red card for scraping his studs on the back of Granit Xhaka last week.

Yet, something as small and ridiculous as the Soucek incident results in a sending-off, after about 100 replays being watched.
