Lee Hendrie was effusive with praise for Demarai Gray after he scored ‘one of the goals of the season’ as Everton visited Manchester City. He got the Toffees level at 1-1 on Saturday.
Manchester City took the lead at the Etihad Stadium through Erling Haaland’s 21st goal of the Premier League season. The Norwegian continued his incredible campaign in the 24th minute on New Year’s Eve. Pep Guardiola had given the 22-year-old his 15th appearance.

But the Citizens could not build on Haaland’s hit and Ederson would ultimately not keep a clean sheet, either. Gray dragged Everton level on 64 minutes as the winger let rip a great strike from an acute angle. It was the 26-year-old’s second goal over 17 games this season.

Gray had also not found the back of a net during any top-flight fixture since August 20. The former England U21 winger likewise drew Everton level that day for a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest. Brennan Johnson (81’) had broken the deadlock before Gray (88’) hit.
Lampard had seen two goals on the road from Gray in the Carabao Cup this season during their two ties. He bagged the only effort of the night to beat Fleetwood Town 1-0. But the forward could only make it 2-1 at AFC Bournemouth before the Cherries claimed a 4-1 win.

Gray scored ‘one of the goals of the season’ for Everton at Manchester City
Lampard again had Gray to thank for delivering for Everton as they visited Manchester City on Saturday after his goal. He robbed possession off of Rodri and charged down the right-hand side. Even him slipping before getting a shot out would not deny Gray a superb goal.
Hendrie was effusive with praise for Gray following his goal against Manchester City to get Everton level at 1-1. The former Aston Villa and England midfielder confidently lauded the strike as one of the best goals seen in the Premier League during the 2022/23 term so far.
“Oh my word, what a goal this is,” Hendrie said on Sky Sports News (31/12, 16:25). “It is unbelievable. He drives into the area and no one really goes to make a challenge and he slips. That shows the distance they were away from Demarai Gray.

“But he gets up, has another touch and he whips it from a tight angle and it is literally in the top bins. They win it back in the midfield, Rodri’s poor pass, just a ball into Demarai Gray. He slips because someone makes a run but oh my word.
“It comes off the underside of the bar. It is a brilliant, brilliant goal. I’d say it’s up there with one of the goals of the season. It’s a worldie, absolute worldie. I’ve seen some good goals this week but that one, that’s outrageous. It is brilliant technique, everything.”
