Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:24pm, December 22, 2022) that he thinks that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Fenway Sports Group (FSG) that he needs £200-250 million in the summer of 2023 to compete with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

The former Liverpool star believes that it is time that Klopp gets a lot of money to spend on quality players, like Manchester United and Chelsea do.

The Sky Sports pundit thinks that Klopp must have told FSG that he wants to go big in the summer of 2023.

As reported by The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool owners FSG are now looking to sell the club.

Carragher said: “I think there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp has said to Liverpool’s owners that I need £200-£250 million to spend in the summer.

“That sounds like an outrageous figure, but that’s what Manchester United and Chelsea spent last summer. So, these are the teams that Liverpool are competing with in spending.”

Staying competitive

In our opinion, Liverpool need to keep on investing if they are to stay competitive and continue to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all are massive clubs with lofty ambitions.

There is also the new threat posed by Newcastle United, who could end up in the Premier League top four this season at the expense of Liverpool.

FSG or Liverpool’s new owners simply have to keep on investing in the squad and make sure sure that Klopp has all the tools needed to stay competitive.
