Martin Keown told BT Sport during their live coverage of Mikel Arteta’s side losing to Aston Villa on Saturday that Arsenal fans would have been outraged at Thomas Partey’s booking.

In a game where referees came under the spotlight once again, Arsenal supporters were asking officials questions after certain decisions went against them.

From whether Ezri Konsa should have been sent off to Partey being booked for a supposed foul on Marvelous Nakamba.

Highbury legend Keown was left baffled as to why Partey was booked seven minutes after the restart.

“I am not too sure why he has been booked for that, to be fair,” said Keown. “The Arsenal fans would be in outrage about that one.

“Well, the referee couldn’t have seen it properly. Of course, he thinks he has seen something.”

Whilst Arsenal fans would have been venting their frustration at the decisions being made over the weekend, they will be more worried about their form and now another potential injury to Partey.

Prior to Partey joining Arsenal for £45 million in the summer (Sky Sports), he didn’t have any injury issues.

But he’s now having a stop-start life in North London and it isn’t helping his cause in terms of progression, nor Arsenal, who want to push for those European places.
