Leeds are in need of a new goalkeeper.

Leeds United’s season has been hamstrung so far by poor performances in goal from Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan.

The Whites mistakenly allowed Robert Green to leave and if they are to kick on next season, they will need a new face in goal.

They could do worse than to look to Newcastle United, who have two Premier League quality goalkeepers who are set to become available.

Both Ireland international Rob Elliott and former Forest stopper Karl Darlow should be on Leeds’ shortlist as they look to upgrade Wiedwald.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez brought in Czech goalkeeper Martin Dubravka after wanting a fresh face in goal at the club, and has under-20 World Cup winner Freddie Woodman in reserve.

Elliott and Darlow need to move on for the sake of their careers and at Leeds they could each claim the number one spot.

Former Charlton stopper Elliott, 31, has Championship experience and has played more than 50 Premier League games.

Darlow, 27, has made seven Premier League starts this season but has not been Rafa Benitez’s preferred option, despite playing 34 times as they won promotion from the Championship last season.

Neither player would cost a prohibitive fee and nor should their wages be an issue if they want to play first team football.

There are a number of ways Leeds could turn to try and solve their goalkeeper issue, but identifying one of the out of favour Newcastle men should be one of their first ports of call.
