The Nottingham Forest boss has signed several Arsenal youngsters in the past.
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton
It was claimed this week that Mark Warburton’s contacts could lead to a link-up between Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur next season. But Spurs aren’t the only north London side where Warbs has connections.
Before taking the reins on Trentside, the 54-year-old was linked with the academy director’s role at Arsenal, whose up-and-coming talents Chuba Akpom, Gedion Zelalem and Jon Toral he’d babysat at previous clubs Brentford and Rangers.
It would be a surprise, therefore, if the Gunners didn’t field any calls from Forest this coming transfer window, and there’s one Emirates youngster the Reds could approach immediately, with his contract coming to an end in June.
Ruled out until March with a calf injury, Yaya Sanogo is fit and firing again, sticking a hat-trick past Reading’s Under-23s at the start of the week, although it could be too little too late as far as the Frenchman’s Arsenal career is concerned.
It’s fair to say Sanogo has failed to fulfill his potential since being plucked from Auxerre from Arsene Wenger, ahead of a string of European sides.
Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo
Loan spells at Crystal Palace and Ajax have done him few favours, although the 24-year-old did manage to score three goals in eight games for a struggling Charlton side last season, before injury stunted his progression.
With Nicklas Bendtner gone and Ross McCormack, Apostolos Vellios and perhaps even Ben Brereton going, Forest could perhaps do with another attacking body or two.
And given Warburton’s previous, Sanogo will likely be considered.
Would Arsenal’s Yaya Sanogo be a good signing for Nottingham Forest?
