Matthew Upson has claimed that West Ham defender, Arthur Masuaku, ‘couldn’t deal’ with Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn last night, as he told BBC Sport.

Spurs beat West Ham 2-1 in their League Cup final showdown, with Bergwijn opening the scoring and then pushing past Masuaku to help Lucas Moura score what turned out to be the winning goal.

Bergwijn was brought back into the XI by Antonio Conte yesterday and the £27 million man (BBC Sport) would have been Man of the Match if it wasn’t for Hugo Lloris’ brilliance in between the sticks.

Just like Dele Alli, there have been a lot of question marks over Bergwijn heading into the January transfer window.

But it seems as though he is letting his football do the talking and helping his side produce the goods.

Former Premier League defender Upson thinks the flying Dutchman enjoyed his performance yesterday, including him out-muscling his counterpart.

“David Moyes must be furious, he expects better from his players,” said Upson.

“Masuaku just can’t deal with Bergwijn and gets out-muscled by the Dutchman. He cuts it back, great run from Moura, into where it hurts, and side-foots it under Areola.”

For West Ham, they will be licking their wounds because they should have got more out of that game.

Given that Lloris walked away with the Man of the Match award proves that they should have scored more than just one goal.

This was a great chance for the Hammers to try and win a trophy this season, but they know they still have the FA Cup to come and they are going strong in Europe.

As for Antonio Conte, he wasn’t at the club when they reached the final last season, but this is a great chance for these same group of players to go down that same road.
