Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has delivered an update on the fitness of Naby Keita ahead of the Reds’ game against Atletico Madrid.

Keita has had some bad luck with injuries as of late, that’s for sure.

The Guinean was forced off against Manchester United after a reckless challenge by Paul Pogba, but luckily, he recovered in time to face Brighton this weekend.

Sadly, against the Seagulls it was a similar story, Keita was forced off early on with an injury, but unfortunately, it seems as though this one is slightly more severe.

What’s been said?

Klopp had some bad news on Tuesday afternoon as he confirmed that Keita will be out for a little while.

“Naby has a hamstring injury so will be out for a while. Apart from that, Millie it’s clear [he won’t be involved] and the others who are out long-term will be out as well,” Klopp said.

“Injuries [in this] period of the season are completely normal, as long as they are not too harsh we have to accept that. The players will be back, hopefully soon, and then they are in contention again as well.”

Blow

This is a real blow for the Reds.

Keita had been playing really well in recent weeks and his injury couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Indeed, the Merseyside club have a bit of a crisis in the midfield at the moment. Harvey Elliott and James Milner are also out, while Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho are only just coming back from their own issues, so match fitness may be hard to come by.

Fingers crossed Liverpool can navigate this period with minimal fuss.
