Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has told the Birmingham Mail that Kortney Hause will miss the next few weeks with injury.

Hause was not in Villa’s squad yesterday, as they were beaten by Manchester City.

It has now transpired that the central defender’s absence was down to a foot problem, which is set to leave him on the sidelines.

But Smith did have better news about Trezeguet, who is seemingly edging closer to making a return.

“Kortney’s out injured and will be for a few weeks,” he said.

“He’s got a foot problem. We’re just trying to get to the bottom of that at the moment. Trezeguet’s only trained one day so far since his hamstring.”

Hause would likely not have started for Villa yesterday even if he had been fit.

However, the 25-year-old’s absence remains a blow, as it limits Smith’s options at the back over what looks set to be a busy period for his side.

Villa’s string of postponements means that they now face playing more league games than any other Premier League side between now and the end of the season.

Villa’s squad depth will surely be tested over the coming weeks, and they will want to avoid any more injury problems, as they look to build on what has been a promising opening to the season.
