By virtue of the fact Gedson Fernandes has clocked only 61 minutes of Premier League football, it’s safe to say his move to Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t been a successful one.
The Portuguese midfielder joined Tottenham on loan from Benfica in January.
But there are now reports from Record that Spurs could terminate the agreement – and it’s a decision Daniel Levy should definitely take.
The 21-year-old has made just the one appearance in any competition for the Lilywhites this season.
And with the addition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, combined with Tanguy Ndombele’s resurgence under Jose Mourinho, there’s just no need for Gedson.
The youngster, who earns £50,000 per week in North London, should want the deal to be cancelled, too.
These are vital years for development and his loan doesn’t end until next summer.
Without a terminated loan, it’s distinctly possible that Gedson spends the rest of the season as a spectator and, at 21, he seriously needs regular football.
It’s disappointing but a return to Benfica does certainly look to be the best solution for the player and Tottenham.
