On July 30, 2020, The Daily Star reported of interest in Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose from Leeds United.

Danny Rose interest

It was reported that Rose is keen on finding a new challenge and knows that he has no future at Tottenham under head coach Jose Mourinho.

Although the England international left-back said on the Second Captions podcast on August 3 that he wants to stay at Spurs next season and fulfill his contract, one suspects that Spurs could decide to cash in on him if Leeds make an offer.

Rose may not have been at the top of his game in recent years, but the England international is a very good left-back who has extensive experience in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Moreover, Rose is still only 30 years of age, and there is every reason to believe that he will get back to his best.

Competition for Barry Douglas

However, reported interest in Rose is not good news for Barry Douglas, as it means more competition for the 30-year-old Leeds left-back.

The Scotland international joined Leeds from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £3 million.

Much was expected of the 30-year-old when he arrived at Elland Road, especially as he played an important role in Wolves clinching promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, but the 30-year-old – who can also operate as a wing-back – has not had a great impact at the Whites.

According to WhoScored, Douglas made 21 starts and six substitute appearances in the Championship for Leeds during the 2018-19 campaign, while this past season, the Scotsman made six starts and nine substitute appearances in the league.

True, the 30-year-old had injury problems in 2019-20, but when he was fit and available, the form of Stuart Dallas – a winger by trade, but who has performed admirably at left-back – kept him out.

Now, with Rose reportedly on the radar of Leeds, it means that Douglas is potentially facing more competition, especially as the England international left-back would join Leeds only if he is guaranteed to at least start the season as the first choice.
