Gareth Bale is reportedly returning to Tottenham. TuttoMercatoWeb report that the Real Madrid attacker has signed a pre-contract agreement with Spurs. But bringing Bale back for a third spell is surely a big mistake?

Bale, who turns 33 in July, has played just three times this season since returning from a season-long loan at Spurs. Back, calf and knee injuries have hampered the progress of Bale, who is now fit again.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke on Friday regarding Bale’s fitness, stating he is training well and available for selection. But his contract expires in the summer and the chances of Real extending that is almost zero.

He will find himself a new club this summer and TMW report he has agreed to return to Tottenham for a second time – after scoring 16 goals on loan in 2020-21. But Fabio Paratici is making a mistake by doing so.

Why are Tottenham making a mistake in re-signing Bale?

Bale is a top, top player. A player that Tottenham fans love and his return will send fans into meltdown, again. But the Wales skipper is past his best, and Spurs have just brought in a new wide man – in Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs have numerous options in attack. They have a rejuvenated Steven Bergwijn, who almost scored another injury-time goal against Southampton – only for it to be ruled offside. Lucas Moura is crucial to Tottenham.

Bryan Gil is also seen as a huge talent, and is impressing on loan at Valencia. So, the return of Bale – which would see Spurs shell out huge wages – is only going to stunt the growth of their current talents.

Not only that, but Bale’s injury record this season, as well as unwillingness to defend and press from the front, will surely not be what Conte wants. Conte wants fighters, Bale is not that. It would be a mistake.
