Our view: The stats which suggest reported Tottenham target Vedat Muriqi could be good fit for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 25-year-old, 6ft 4in marksman.

Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with Fenerbahce striker and Kosovo international Vedat Muriqi, who is set to come up against England in Tuesday night’s Euro 2020 qualifier at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

According to Sabah in Turkey, Spurs sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old in action for Kosovo on Saturday afternoon, with the report noting that the press in his home nation have compared him to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Muriqi, who stands an imposing 1.94m (6ft 4in) tall, has enjoyed a rapid upward trajectory over the past year, scoring an impressive 17 goals in 36 games for Caykur Rizespor in 2018-19, culminating in the big move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce over the summer.

He has hit the ground running for the Istanbul club too, scoring twice in three 2019-20 Superlig games (Transfermarkt), while for his nation he has five goals in 20 games and has been a key component in their recent unbeaten run.

In terms of more detailed statistics, Muriqi has shown that, aside from being a clinical marksman, his all-round game is also good, with eight assists and 1.4 key passes per league game since 2018-19, while through-balls are deemed his major strength by Whoscored, while his key passes, aerial duels and finishing are also “strong”.

Of those to muster 50 or more shots in the Super Lig, only two players have a better conversion rate than Muriqi (22.6%) since the start of the 2018-19 season (Whoscored), culminating in 19 goals and eight assists at club level; proof of how clinical he is – in his current environment at least.

Admittedly, there is a gulf in quality between the Turkish top flight and the Premier League, but should Muriqi impress against Gareth Southgate’s side on Tuesday night, it would provide yet more food for thought for Mauricio Pochettino, on top of the already decent stats, as scorer and provider, which suggest he could be of benefit to Spurs.
