It’s rare that you can get a bargain in football these days, but Arsenal could be in line for their biggest bargain since Aaron Ramsey in the shape of Dominik Szoboszlai.
Unfortunately, an ever-inflating market means that you’re likely to end up paying over the odds for any player with a semblance of hype around them, but Szoboszlai’s release clause means he’s available at a very modest price for a player of his ability.
However, one report that has emerged this week should be sending shivers down every Gunners fan’s spine.
Indeed, it’s been an open secret for a while that Arsenal want to sign Dominik Szoboszlai, with his agent admitting that the London club are interested in the Hungarian.
Luckily for Arsenal, he is available for a bargain fee of just £23 million, but the Gunners may still be about to royally mess things up.
Reports are stating that Arsenal are trying to sign the midfielder with the fees being paid in instalments, rather than up front, and while that is a perfectly fine transfer strategy in most cases, here it is a ludicrous suggestion.
If you’re offered a midfielder with six league assists in seven games and two Champions League goals in three outings for just £23 million, you should be biting a team’s hand off, but Arsenal are once again set to look a gift horse in the mouth.

It’s not as if the Gunners are the only club in for Szoboszlai, Real Madrid and Tottenham have also been linked lately, and if they’re going to pay up front, that may effectively rule Arsenal out of the race.
This is a 20-year-old who is incredibly talented, in this day and age £23 million is an absolute snip for a player of his ability.
But still, Stan Kroenke isn’t willing to part with his cash, even if this is the biggest bargain he’s been offered in almost a decade.
Of course, things could change, but if the Gunners miss out on Szoboszlai because of this, supporters will have every right to be fuming.
