Sheffield United may be forced to bid for the Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster – if they still want him.
United are one of the clubs – alongside Aston Villa and Crystal Palace – who are interested in signing Brewster ahead of the October transfer deadline, according to The Telegraph.
And it is claimed the trio are ‘hopeful’ the 20-year-old could be available, either on loan or on a permanent deal ‘worth more than £20 million’.
The Blades, though, have already signed one player – Ethan Ampadu of Chelsea – on loan from a rival Premier League club this summer and are close to adding another in Oliver Burke of West Bromwich Albion, according to Sky Sports.
The maximum at any one time is two.
And Burke does indeed arrive on a temporary basis, Sheffield United would no longer be allowed to take Brewster on loan.
The worry is then that the Blades could be dragged into a bidding war with potentially more frivolous clubs in Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and others.
But with Villa and Palace reportedly set to strengthen their options in Brewster’s position, with Ollie Watkins and Michy Batshuayi respectively, Chris Wilder’s team may suddenly find themselves with fewer competitors in their pursuit of the Liverpool player.
And Brewster could be Bramall Lane-bound after all – that is, of course, if Liverpool want to sell him.
