Fabrizio Romano claims Everton have completed the permanent signing of Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli. But surely, Tottenham could come to regret selling the England star permanently – instead of simply loaning him out?

Dele, 25, has struggled for game time at Tottenham since the arrival of Antonio Conte as manager. Indeed, the 37-time England international has featured just three times in the Premier League since Conte was installed.

It has seen Dele linked with numerous Premier League clubs – Newcastle just one of a number of names. Paris Saint-Germain are also said to have been interested in forming a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino.

But now, after Lampard arrived at Everton, it appears that the Toffees are set to further strengthen the imminent arrival of Donny van de Beek on loan. Romano says a permanent deal for Dele is now completed.

Romano update: Will Tottenham regret selling Dele to Everton?

Not just Tottenham fans, but all Premier League supporters will know just how good Dele can be. Yes, the midfielder has fallen by the way side in recent seasons – but that has been under the scrutiny of Spurs fans.

He needed a fresh start, a new place to regain his confidence and his form. Also, he requires a club where he will be given the chance to play in his best position. He could have done that on loan, and returned to Spurs.

Regaining his confidence at Everton on a dry loan, it would have perhaps given Dele the chance to return to Spurs and reignite his former self. But selling him permanently might lead to a backlash from fans.

Tottenham supporters love Dele – so, to see him shine at Everton and with no chance of a return, it is only going to infuriate them. If Lampard can get the best out of Dele, Spurs will surely regret selling him permanently.
