Arsenal fans think they may have had the last laugh on Troy Deeney when he was relegated from the Premier League, but he may now land on the doorstep of Tottenham this summer and come back to haunt them.

The Daily Mail previously claimed that Spurs could make a move for Deeney and Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the Watford man because he is a big-earner at the now-Championship side.

Added with that, the Sun have reported that Callum Wilson is another striker target for the Lilywhites, who will be playing Europa League football next term.

On paper, Wilson is perhaps the better option for Mourinho because of his potential and he has more pace to provide a Spurs team that has been more counter-attacking since the Portuguese arrived through the doors in November.

But Deeney would be the one who would provide the entertainment in North London if he were to make a switch to Tottenham.

On the last day of the Premier League season, Deeney’s side were beaten 3-2 at Arsenal, which resulted in Watford’s five-year Premier League stay coming to an end.

For a section of the Arsenal support, it was a great sight to see because of Deeney’s ‘cojones’ comments [The Independent] aimed at the Gunners players in 2017, which seemingly came back to bite him on the back a couple of weeks ago.

But if Spurs are to sign the outspoken hitman then this may not be the end of a rivalry which has grown between the Englishman and the current FA Cup holders in recent seasons.

The North London derby needs no introduction or spice added to it, but Deeney moving to Spurs would definitely add to that.

The 32-year-old may have some unfinished business with Arsenal and he may well annoy them even further if he is a Spurs player next season.

Deeney would be second-choice behind Harry Kane and may just turn out to be a clever signing for Mourinho given that he needs depth in his squad.

Given Deeney’s forthright character, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is still blunt and saying it like it is about Arsenal if they struggle again next season.

Either way, the experienced player always entertains, whether he is saying something for your club or against your club, and that’s always worth watching.
