Liverpool are reportedly trying to bring Saul Niguez to Anfield this summer.

AS reported from Spain this week that the Atletico Madrid star is a genuine target for Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards.

And yesterday, La Razon added the same but noted that Saul was ‘seduced’ by the prospect of being a Premier League player in a further boost for Liverpool.

Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano may have a very good piece of news for Klopp on the Saul front.

Replacement sorted?

That’s because La Razon added that Atletico wanted Rodrigo De Paul as Saul’s replacement – and it looks like that’s a done deal, according to Romano.

If De Paul to Atleti is a done deal then that, in theory, represents an excellent piece of news for the Anfield club, providing Saul is legitimately a target.

It may pave the way for Klopp and Edwards to bring the 26-year-old to Merseyside.

The Spanish club don’t sell big players until they have a replacement.

Last summer, Thomas Partey’s move to Arsenal wasn’t sanctioned until they had an agreement for Lucas Torreira to come the other way on loan.

It’s a sensible strategy in the transfer market and although Saul to Liverpool wouldn’t be anywhere near confirmed until De Paul is announced in Madrid, the likelyhood that he’s going in the first place is a major boost indeed.
