Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Kurt Zouma seems to have gone a wee bit cold.
Sky Sports reported three weeks ago that Chelsea were listening to offers for the France centre-back but fast forward to now and there’s been little to no speculation about Spurs making an official bid.
But that could change very, very soon.
According to The Guardian, the Blues have wrapped up a deal to sign Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain.
If and when that is confirmed, it could, in theory, pave the way for Tottenham to get serious about Zouma.
As talented as the Frenchman is, he simply isn’t going to play ahead of the Brazil legend, even if he’s 35.
In the FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal earlier this month, it was Zouma who was majorly responsible for the Gunners’ winning goal and that’ll have probably confirmed to Frank Lampard that he needs somebody better next term.
In July, The Express reported that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was confident about taking his former player to North London.
And if the Thiago deal goes through, that optimism should be cranked up a notch.
The big man will be reduced to being a squad player at Stamford Bridge and he’ll want – and need – regular football if he is to boost his chances of representing his country at Euro 2021.
Of course, other teams apart from Tottenham might lodge an interest in Zouma, but if Mourinho or Daniel Levy is genuinely interested, now is the time to strike.
