Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a move to hijack Tottenham’s pursuit of Luis Diaz, with Fabrizio Romano claiming a package worth £54million could get a deal done. But surely, the move hands Leeds a transfer boost?

Diaz, 24, has long been linked with Liverpool but Tottenham tried their luck – offering £46million, according to SIC Noticias. However, Liverpool have moved quickly to elbow Spurs aside and are offering a bigger deal.

Indeed, Romano reports that Liverpool will offer less up front than Spurs – just £33.5million compared to Tottenham’s £37million. But the Reds will include £20.5million in bonuses – £16million of which are likely.

It sees Liverpool offer a bigger overall fee of £54million – compared to Tottenham’s £46million. A factor in the deal is also Diaz would prefer a move to Liverpool, according to The Record. But it helps Leeds.

Why Diaz joining Liverpool helps Leeds in Minamino pursuit…

On Thursday, surprise reports emerged that Leeds were keen on bringing Japan star Takumi Minamino from Anfield to Elland Road. A move for Brenden Aaronson does not look likely until the summer window.

The Independent said Leeds and Monaco had made approaches for the 27-year-old, a player Jurgen Klopp has branded “outstanding“. It has been turned down, but the signing of Diaz might just change that.

Diaz is a surprise move and Liverpool bringing the Colombian to the club instantly hands Sadio Mane and Mo Salah competition. Diaz will be far above Minamino on the pecking order, and further reduces his game time.

Minamino has already gone out on loan from Liverpool to Southampton during his time at Anfield and now, surely, the Reds signing Diaz hands Leeds a boost in their pursuit of the ex-Salzburg player?
