Newcastle are reportedly set to place seven fringe players on the transfer list this summer and one of those includes left-back Jamal Lewis. It should put Rangers on red alert – in a bid to bring the defender to Ibrox.

Rangers have been excellent of late. Even despite a couple of shaky draws in the Premiership, their form in Europe has not gone unnoticed – knocking Dortmund out of the Europa League. But one player is struggling.

Borna Barisic is not enjoying his best season at Rangers. So much so, that in the second leg against Dortmund – Barisic was taken off at half-time, and Calvin Bassey moved to left-back. A move that was deemed crucial.

Rangers could do with a new left-back in the January window and Lewis might be ideal. Newcastle paid £15million (Sky) for the Northern Ireland international, but he has not been given a chance to repay that figure.

Rangers should sign Newcastle star Lewis, Davis is a big fan

Newcastle left the defender out of their 25-man Premier League squad – but he has remained at the Toon despite interest from Turkish clubs. TeamTalk claim he is one of seven players that will be sold in the summer window.

Rangers need a left-back and Lewis needs a chance to resurrect his career at this early stage – given he is only 24. Gio van Bronckhorst’s attacking wing-backs system, which sees James Tavernier thrive, would suit Lewis.

Speaking about a move for Lewis to Newcastle, Davis told Sky Sports – as per SportsLens – in 2020: “He’s an exciting talent. He’s an exciting attacking, real modern-day full-back. It will be an excellent signing for them.”

Joining up with international teammate Davis and the chance to play in the Champions League, if Rangers win the title, will be tempting for Lewis. Rangers have got to chance their arm and lure him north of the border.
