Leeds United might be going into the January transfer window in the same place as they did for the summer one – in need of centre-backs.
Marcelo Bielsa brought two central defenders to Elland Road during the summer – Robin Koch for £13 million and Diego Llorente for £17 million.
But Koch has been ruled out for three months after undergoing knee surgery and Llorente is sidelined with a muscle problem, having only managed 81 minutes of Premier League football this season.
Leeds have been brilliant on their return to the big time, but the second half of the season will be unforgiving unless Bielsa prepares and he needs another centre-back.
And one name who could and should interest the Elland Road side is Arsenal’s Calum Chambers.
The 25-year-old is only back from a long-term injury himself and that’s why he might be available for Leeds.
Chambers, a £16 million signing in 2014, has a lot of competition at centre-back in North London and the truth is that he might not play a lot from January until May.
Leeds were linked with the former Southampton defender back in August, which frankly made zero sense by virtue of the fact he only made his comeback from injury last month.
But going for Chambers absolutely makes sense now and this is one Bielsa should certainly pursue.
