Eric Dier may well have to be regarded as Tottenham Hotspur’s player of the season so far this term.

Tottenham’s Mr. Consistent

Dier came into the campaign with serious doubts over his ability to play regularly for Tottenham.

Under Jose Mourinho he had been a regular pick, but he hadn’t always impressed.

However, under both Nuno and now Antonio Conte, Dier has been back to his best this season.

His displays in the centre of Tottenham’s back-three have seriously caught the eye, with his form deserving of great praise.

England call up coming?

Dier had really fallen away from England contention, but he surely deserves some recognition from Gareth Southgate now.

The Tottenham man, who was signed by Mauricio Pochettino for just £4 million, has been considerably better than Conor Coady or Tyrone Mings this season, who are regular selections in Three Lions’ squads.

Dier has also arguably been more consistent than any of his Tottenham teammates this term.

He is rapidly becoming one of the first names on the Spurs team sheet, and for good reason.

His aggression combined with his ball playing ability means that he is ideally suited to playing in a back-three.

Even when Conte came in there were some question marks over whether he would need to replace the entirety of the Tottenham defence.

But it is becoming more and more clear that Conte is in fact a big fan of the Spurs man.

And it may be that only one centre-back needs to come in over the coming months, as Dier and Cristian Romero could well have ensured they are part of Conte’s plans for the long-term.
