Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting to hijack Arsenal’s move for Houssem Aouar.
It was reported by The Sun last week that Arsenal – who spent most of last summer chasing the Lyon playmaker – were set to offer him a £100,000-a-week deal to join the Emirates Stadium club.
But now the print edition of The Mirror [page 77, 27/06] are claiming that Tottenham are planning to beat their North London rivals to the 22-year-old’s signing.
And if true, Fabio Paratici could become an instant hero in North London – well, the white half of the divide.
Instant hero
The Lilywhites haven’t signed a player or even hired a manager yet, but they have appointed Paratici – formerly of Juventus, where he won 19 trophies – as their managing director.
And if he masterminds a deal for Aouar, at the expense of Arsenal, then it’s pretty safe to say that Spurs fans will love him immediately.
The only thing Paratici could do to endear himself to Tottenham supporters more than that is convincing Harry Kane to stay at the club, but that’s a pretty difficult sell, it has to be said.
This is the next best thing, however.
It’s especially exciting for Tottenham because not only is Aouar a brilliant player – labelled ‘incredible‘ by Pep Guardiola in 2019 – and not only would they be denying Arsenal.
But he’s been on the Gunners’ radar for what seems like years and that element will make it hurt that bit more.
