Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer window is taking shape.

Spurs have signed two players so far – Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini [on loan] but there’ll be a flurry of activity throughout the month of August.

It’s worth pointing out that some big players could also leave Tottenham and obviously one of those is Harry Kane.

But there’s two more potential departures which could land the Lilywhites in quite a lot of trouble if Nuno Espirito Santo sanctions them.

According to The Athletic, Nuno could sell Matt Doherty if the right offer comes in, with Serge Aurier already being told that he’s surplus to requirements.

They’re both right-backs and although neither is absolutely brilliant, selling both in the same summer could be considered, well, stupid.

Big gamble

The Portuguese coach just can’t afford to lose both.

Even if Spurs wind up signing Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, his primary position is a centre-back, not a right-back.

This position has cost the North Londoners a lot of problems since 2017 when Kyle Walker left.

And Nuno could make it a whole lot worse if he sells two Premier League-proven players in the same role.

If Tottenham sign two right-backs then fair enough, but is that going to happen? More than likely not.

This would undeniably be a gamble and one that Nuno must think long and hard about.
