Manchester United have not yet made a meaningful effort to buy a new centre-forward, which could imply a positional change for Mason Greenwood.
United have certainly directed their attentions to other areas of the pitch away from acquiring another central attacker.
Signing Jadon Sancho was the Red Devils’ first port of call.
With that ticked off, they have moved on to bolstering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defense, in the form of Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier.
Even central midfield is subject to a potential reshuffling, with Rennes wonder kid Eduardo Camavinga under inspection.
But there has been no concrete talks of landing a no.9.
Striker situation
Harry Kane and Erling Haaland have both come up in conversation, yet they are linked with moves to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

Understandably, some United fans might be getting a little twitchy at this particular lack of transfer activity.
Edison Cavani is the only real recognised traditional striker in the squad.
Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford can play through the middle, although the latter’s best position is coming off the left.
Martial missed a large proportion of last season through injury and cannot really be relied upon to provide all the goals.

Get Greenwood involved
However, Solskjaer might just have a plan up his sleeve in the form of Greenwood.
The teenager has played the majority of his football for United out on the right, cutting in onto his left foot and usually hitting the target.
Yet, on occasion, he can be located in the middle of Solskjaer’s strike force.
This didn’t happen often in the previous term, thanks to Cavani’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

It might become a more regular occurrence for Greenwood if United don’t bother recruiting a fresh central-striker.
He has arguably the best finisher at the club, even if his numbers suggest otherwise.
12 goals in 52 appearances in 2020/21 isn’t groundbreaking, although this could easily improve if the England international is moved inside.
