Newcastle United were always going to need lady luck shining on them if they were to pull off an eye-catching appointment like Mauricio Pochettino.
And if rumours are believed, they’ve just got a very big piece of fortune in that regard.
According to Sky Sports News, Pochettino is Newcastle’s first-choice to replace Steve Bruce if and when the £300 million takeover is ratified by the Premier League.
But the Argentine is reported to have told the Magpies’ prospective new owners that he won’t be working under a Director of Football.
If he goes to St James’s Park, Pochettino would want 100 percent control of transfer-related matters it seems.
And the good news here is that Luis Campos has reportedly rejected the chance to join the North-East club.
According to L’Equipe, the Lille sporting director has turned down a massive offer from Newcastle and is heading for Tottenham Hotspur instead.
Had Campos taken United’s offer then he would’ve been charged with the buying and selling of players at St James’s Park, a responsibility that Pochettino reportedly wants.
The former Spurs manager isn’t guaranteed to be going to Newcastle just because Campos isn’t, but there was never room for both in the North East, only one.
