These are very exciting times if you’re a Newcastle United fan.

Not only is Mike Ashley seemingly on the brink of leaving the Magpies, but he looks set to be replaced by a regime who have a lot of ambition and even more money.

Mohammed bin Salman, part of the group who are looking to buy Newcastle, is believed to have a net worth of some £260 billion and, consequently, a lot of big-name players are being linked with a move to St James’s Park.

Philippe Coutinho is potentially one of United’s more eye-catching targets [Sport], but there’s a new name on the club’s reported shopping list who isn’t as big as Coutinho, but it’d be much more exciting.

According to Foot-Sur-7, Newcastle want to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

This is a player who has been described as ‘incredible‘ by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who wants him at Eastlands, and Liverpool also want him at Anfield.

This is a player who could have his pick of any elite club in Europe soon, and if he winds up at Newcastle then it’s such an exciting statement of intent by the North-East side.

Coutinho is obviously no mug, but he’d be joining the Magpies on the back of failed stints at Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Another elite club probably isn’t going to be in for him this summer, but they will for the 21-year-old Aouar and a stint at St James’s would signal the new regime’s ambition.
