According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are closing in on a deal for reported Arsenal target Gabriel Magalhaes as they strengthen relations with Lille.

The Brazilian defender is seemingly set to depart Lille this summer.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca di Marzio claimed this past week that Everton had a medical done for Gabriel, but the deal has since gone quiet.

According to Le10sport, Arsenal have also been linked with him.

The Gunners must look at strengthening a weak defence this summer, while bringing the average age down with both David Luiz and Sokratis in their thirties.

But the Premier League duo are in danger of missing out on him.

Corriere dello Sport claim Napoli are closing in on a deal for Gabriel and Victor Osimhen, with the Serie A club offering £45 million plus Adam Ounas.

The Italian report claims Napoli have a strong relationship with Lille from last year.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side reportedly went in for Pepe. The Ivory Coast international, however, ultimately ended up joining Arsenal for a club record £72 million.

Now, it is looking like it is Napoli’s turn to beat Arsenal to one of Lille’s prized assets.

Gabriel made 23 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Lille this season, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

At 22, the 6ft3inch defender has a decade of top-level football ahead of him and he is exactly the sort of player the Gunners should bring in this summer.
