Tottenham Hotspur looked poised to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Friday that Spurs were in advanced talks with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss.
The Lilywhites have been without a coach since sacking Jose Mourinho well over two months ago.
And if it is Nuno, could he bring a former Tottenham target to North London?
Neves?
The Express reported last June that Mourinho wanted to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
Clearly it didn’t happen but the Portugal international may be on the move this summer amid speculation of Arsenal plotting a £40 million bid.
With Nuno – who brought him to Wolves – having left the club, and Tottenham probably needing a midfielder, a move for Neves is logical if the former goalkeeper is named as Mourinho’s replacement.
Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko will do well to survive another summer and if Fabio Paratici is charged with removing the deadwood, he should look no further than two of those.
Adding to the fact that Tanguy Ndombele is inconsistent, the Lilywhites do need a Neves-type player during the off-season.
And if Nuno gets the job, don’t be surprised if speculation about Neves himself follows.
