Serge Aurier’s complete turnaround at Tottenham Hotspur this season has been simply remarkable.

The sheer sight of Serge Aurier’s name on a team sheet has been enough to cause concern among Tottenham’s fan base throughout much of his time in North London.

But this season Aurier has transformed from a reckless and unreliable full-back into Tottenham Hotspur’s undisputed first-choice in the position.

Aurier has always possessed attacking strength, but his tendency to make huge errors of judgement had always let him down.

However, since Jose Mourinho decided to sign Matt Doherty, Aurier has shown the very best of himself.

The former PSG man has switched on defensively, while ensuring that he retains his attacking threat from deep.

Tottenham currently have one of the strongest defences in the Premier League and Aurier has played a key role in that.

The £23 million (BBC Sport) man’s form may have gone slightly under the radar, but it deserves huge praise.

Aurier almost left Spurs over the summer, but he has fought his way firmly back into Mourinho’s plans, and the Portuguese boss must be so glad he is still at the club now.

If Aurier can continue to keep up his current levels, then he will have to be considered among the Premier League’s most competent full-backs.

And that is some turnaround from a player who once looked a liability almost every time he stepped onto a pitch in a Tottenham shirt.
