If rumours are to be believed, Jack Clarke is staying at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old has been tentatively linked with more loan moves in recent months, having spent last term at two different clubs – Leeds and QPR.

Clarke joined Tottenham from Leeds in a £10 million deal last summer and although it hasn’t gone well so far, Football London claims he is impressing Jose Mourinho who now wants to keep him around the place at Hotspur Way.

Thing is, Mourinho won’t be in a position to offer the youngster much senior football, but the EFL Cup clash with Stoke City in December could be and should be a realistic goal for him to work toward.

City are a Championship club and the Portuguese manager will more than likely play an under-strength XI against them in a couple of months.

Clarke won’t be able to send any statements of intent to Mourinho in senior games between now and then, but what he can do is rip up the Under-23 league and any time that he’s training with the first team, rip that up too.

Easier said than done, of course, but staying in Tottenham for the whole 2020-21 campaign could either be harmful for his development or it could be the making of him, especially with a left-sided winger like Gareth Bale to learn from now.

But first-team chances won’t be plentiful, so when the chance comes along to play in one of them – like, say, against Stoke in the League Cup – then he needs to do everything he can to make the XI.
