Daniel James might find himself in a very precarious position if Manchester United manage to sign at least one of their reported transfer targets.

Jadon Sancho remains the priority purchase this summer, but now Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped by ESPN for a potential return to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on strengthening his foward positions and either Sancho and Ronaldo would be a major upgrade.

Either star would be a massive coop for United in different ways.

Any side would welcome Sancho into their squad, based on his ability and achievements earned at such a young age.

Ronaldo remains the game’s iconic modern figure, whose commercial appeal could benefit the Red Devils as much as his quality on the field.

However, there may be one man within Solskjaer’s set up who wouldn’t welcome new recruits this transfer window.

Wales are just about to begin their European Championship adventure, where James will be hoping to impress his employees back in Manchester.

James looking over his shoulder

The £15m (Sky Sports) 2019 signing from Swansea City enjoyed a decent spell towards the season’s second half until he picked up an injury in May.

Now back fit and ready to embark on a Euros mission, the speedy forward might have one eye on the deals going on at United.

Especially those concerning Sancho or Ronaldo, as that would impact his place in the team directly.

James can play on both wings, but Solskjaer mainly used him on the right last campaign.

He’s already faced competition from Mason Greenwood and January arrival Amad Diallo, with the former usually getting the nod.

Include Sancho or Ronaldo and the Welsh winger would fall even further down the pecking order.

Shifting over to the opposite flank wouldn’t improve his chances much either.

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba have been utilised on the left by Solskjaer, an area Sancho and Ronaldo could both comfortably move into.

It’s too early to say how much this could bear upon James’ role in the United camp. However, the early signs are not positive.
