You could forgive Liverpool fans if they had either forgotten about Kaide Gordon, or never heard of him in the first place.

But in February, the Reds announced that they had signed the 16-year-old gem from Derby County.

It wasn’t exactly huge news, but some Liverpool fans did take note and those who didn’t may catch a first glimpse of the player soon.

That’s because Gordon has been named in Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season squad for the training camp in Austria next week.

And although Liverpool’s friendlies haven’t all been confirmed yet, there’s a good chance that supporters of the Anfield club will see what all the fuss is about – and there is a lot of fuss.

After all, this is player who Wayne Rooney himself heralded earlier this year when the speculation about him potentially joining Liverpool first broke.

He said: “Kaide is a fantastic player. I brought him into the squad because he was showing the qualities I want.”

It goes without saying that Rooney is well placed to comment on young players and their potential, having been a prodigy himself at one stage during his stint at Everton.

And it’ll be very interesting to see if Gordon can show Liverpool supporters just why he’s such an exciting prospect.

The fans may have taken little note when he first arrived but, once pre-season is done, a lot of them could and probably will know exactly who Gordon is.
