Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has deservedly earned a reputation for being a difficult man to negotiate with.
Quite often this approach benefits Spurs but there are times when it hurts them, holds them back.
For instance, Jack Grealish is now worth £100 million and Tottenham tried to get him on the cheap a few years ago [The Sun] by offering £5 million and making Aston Villa ‘sweat’.
Yep, there are times when the North Londoners miss out on good opportunities through Levy’s methods – and they might be missing out on another one.
The Lilywhites are linked with bringing Christian Eriksen back to the club following his nightmare year-long spell with Inter Milan.
Eriksen joined the Italians for £18 million a year ago and Spurs reportedly want him back.
But according to Sky Sport Italia, Levy does not want to pay Inter a loan fee for the 28-year-old playmaker and, with other Premier League clubs keen and willing to pay, it’s a risky ploy by the Tottenham supremo.
Jose Mourinho’s side are fourth in the Premier League and doing fine without Eriksen.
But there are games – like Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham – where they do absolutely need his creativity from midfield, creativity that sometimes Harry Kane isn’t capable of.
The former Ajax man would improve Mourinho’s team but Levy could ruin their chances of getting him with this hard-nosed approach.
