Leeds United’s hopes of signing Said Benrahma have surely just been boosted by Brentford’s play off failure.

Brentford lost 2-1 to Fulham at Wembley last night, as they suffered the heartbreak of missing out on the Premier League at the final hurdle.

Some Leeds fans, who have seen their side get so close to making a return to the top flight only to miss out, would surely have felt rather sorry for the Bees.

But there is unlikely to be any sympathy shown from Leeds’ transfer team.

The Daily Mail claim that Leeds want to sign Benrahma, and the chances of the Algerian making a move to Elland Road have surely just increased.

If Brentford had earned promotion then the tricky winger may have been tempted to stay with Thomas Frank’s side, but they will almost definitely have to sell him now.

Benrahma has been one of the stars of the Championship over the past campaign, and a move to the Premier League now looks inevitable for the £30 million man (ESPN).

Whether he will play top flight football with Leeds still remains to be seen.

But last night’s result plays right into Leeds’ hands, and it would not be a surprise if Marcelo Bielsa’s side step up their chase of the attacking playmaker in the coming days.
