Leeds United have loaned out Ryan Edmondson.
The 19-year-old has joined Aberdeen on a half-season loan until January.
And interestingly, this could be seen as a clear hint that Leeds’ Director of Football Victor Orta will sign a striker during the summer transfer window.
That’s because Edmondson is a striker and although he wasn’t in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team squad last season, he was one of only three options available to the Argentine, along with Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts, who’s been playing as a number 10 for 18 months.
To ensure they stay in the Premier League next season, United were going to need to bolster their firepower up front anyway but by letting a number nine leave, it’s an obvious indication that there’ll be one or two more forwards arriving at Elland Road.
Bielsa and Orta really aren’t in a position to be loaning or selling players in any position where they’re short – and up front, there’s a huge lack of options.
With Jean-Kevin Augustin gone and staying gone in all likelyhood, signing a striker was guaranteed by Leeds this summer anyway.
But Edmondson’s exit definitely strengthens that theory.
