Fabian Delph was linked with an emotional return to Leeds United during the summer transfer window.
The Whites won promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years and the former Manchester City midfielder was reportedly on their radar [The Daily Star].
A return to his boyhood club never materialised but if Leeds were interested, they still should be.
That’s because according to reports, Everton are interested in signing Sami Khedira.
The England international has only started one Premier League game under Carlo Ancelotti this season and obviously the addition of Khedira would further render Delph a forgotten man on Merseyside.
Do Leeds need him?
Well with Kalvin Phillips struggling for fitness at times throughout 2020, yes.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that Delph – who can play a number of midfield roles – has 20 caps for England and two Premier League titles under his belt.
We’re talking about a very experienced, very talented football and one who is still only 31.
When he signed for the Toffees in 2019, Paul Merson said: “I am a big fan of Delph. He can play in certain positions and is an excellent signing.”
He has a lot left in the tank and if Khedira winds up at Goodison Park, it should give United the impetus to bring their boy back to Elland Road.
