Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has still not forgotten about Everton forward Richarlison’s challenge on Thiago Alcantara in the Merseyside derby.
The Reds played out a 2-2 draw with Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the Premier League on October 17, 2020.
It was a controversial match in which defender Virgil van Dijk suffered a long-term injury following a challenge from Jordan Pickford.
Thiago also suffered an injury late in the game when Richarlison made a rash challenge on him. The 23-year-old Brazil international forward was subsequently sent off.
The Spain international midfielder has not played since then, and Liverpool manager Klopp has suggested that the former Bayern Munich star will not play against Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend.
The German also seems to have taken a swipe at Richarlison for his challenge that injured Thiago.
When asked whether Thiago had a setback in his recovery or his length of time out is a result of the injury he suffered, Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “It’s a consequence of the injury; it was a hit, it was a straight kick on his knee.
“So, it’s a consequence of the injury. We have to deal with the consequences of injuries and the accidents that happen, fouls, whatever.
“In this game, they were fouls, harsh fouls. If he could have played before [now] he would have played before, but he couldn’t. But he is out there on the pitch, he is running, he is doing a lot of stuff, so it will not be too long anymore.”

Staying positive
Thiago joined Liverpool from German and European giants Bayern in the summer of 2020.
The 29-year-old has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for the Reds so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Thiago is a world-class midfielder who will grow in importance for the Reds when he recovers from fitness and is back to his best.
For now, the midfielder, Klopp and Liverpool fans have to stay patient and hope that he recovers soon.
The Reds are doing well in the Premier League and the Champions League despite their injury problems.
It is encouraging, as it suggests that when Liverpool have all – or at least most of – their best players fit and available, then they will get even better and stronger.
