At one stage this season, Arsenal’s business for Dani Ceballos looked absolutely dreadful.
According to The Sun, the Gunners paid an eye-watering £15 million loan fee to sign the Real Madrid midfielder, who was barely making Mikel Arteta’s squad at the start of the calendar year.
Fast forward seven months, though, and Ceballos is a very important player for Arsenal this season.
And if one rumour is believed, they’ve been quoted a bargain price to sign him on a permanent basis.
According to Marca, Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s Head of Football, could pick him up for only £22.6 million.
It doesn’t matter if the footballing economy has taken a knock as a result of the global health crisis – that’s still an absolute steal if Raul signs off on it.
Ceballos has been looking like a classy player under Arteta – a former midfielder – since football resumed in June.
The Spaniard has been playing the sort of defence-splitting balls that Cesc Fabregas used to, while scoring the last-minute winners – like against Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-final – that reliable players should be.
He has really stepped up for Arsenal and under a coach like Arteta, he could get a lot better.
Paying a £15 million loan looked ridiculous for so long, but this time it’s Arsenal who could get the better end of the deal is Raul pays £22.6 million.
