Leigh Griffiths could and should be fearing for his future at Celtic.
The 30-year-old hitman was omitted by Neil Lennon for the pre-season trip to France last month.
The Celtic boss was furious with the way that Griffiths returned to Lennoxtown after lockdown, claiming that he was unfit and overweight.
And if rumours are believed, there may be no room for the Scot in Lennon’s squad this season.
That’s because the Northern Irishman has already signed Albian Ajeti from West Ham United and, according to Fanatik in Turkey, Celtic are still pursuing Caleb Ekuban.
Ekuban, like Griffiths, is a striker and if Lennon wants him, where does it leave the former Hibernian marksman?
On his day, Griffiths is one of the best goalscorers in Scotland, evident by the fact he scored a hat-trick in the Bhoys’ last game of the 2019-20 campaign.
But if Ekuban joins, then the Ghanaian attacker, Ajeti, Patryk Klimala and Odsonne Edouard might be ahead of Griffiths in the pecking order.
You could defend Celtic’s acquisition of Ajeti, arguing that he’s a replacement for Vakoun Bayo as Lennon tries to mastermind 10-in-a-row, but if the pursuit of Ekuban is genuine then it does very well indicate that they’re planning for life without Griffiths.
