Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Marcelo Brozovic – and the source is aces.

According to The Times, United are really interested in bringing the Inter Milan midfielder to St James’s Park.

Let’s face it, a lot of the players linked to Newcastle won’t wind up joining.

And although the same might be true of Brozovic, it’s an absolute coup if Eddie Howe could get it done.

It would be an unbelievable signing for two reasons.

Gamechanger

Firstly, Brozovic is out of contract at Inter next summer and therefore a cut-price deal is potentially on the cards in January.

And secondly, this is one of Europe’s finest midfielders and one in the peak of his powers.

Newcastle have a majority shareholder – Saudi Public Investment Fund – with a reported fortune of £320 billion [Bloomberg].

They have the spending power to turn the Magpies into one heck of a club, but not the status right now.

But if Howe’s other targets see someone like Brozovic buying into the project on Tyneside, there’s no telling how many people will want to follow him.

Once one domino falls, the rest will follow and Brozovic – often linked to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur – could lead the way.

It would be a gamechanger of a signing for a number of reasons and although it might not happen, it’s certainly worth getting excited about.
