Tottenham Hotspur have a big injury concern ahead of this evening’s visit of Arsenal.
Hugo Lloris has arguably been Spurs’ best and most consistent player in 2020 as a whole, given that Harry Kane virtually didn’t kick a ball this calendar year until football resumed in June.
But the France international is an injury doubt for the North London derby.
According to The Guardian, Joe Hart is in line for his Premier League debut for Tottenham today.
And that, in turn, means Jose Mourinho is probably going to recall one forgotten, frozen-out player to the squad.
If Hart makes the first XI then Paulo Gazzaniga – a £2 million signing from Southampton in 2017 [The Sun] – is most probably going to be back on the bench for the first time this season.
The Argentine goalkeeper hasn’t made a single squad under Mourinho since the 2019-20 campaign ended, prompting speculation that the club will sell him in January.
But the chances are that he’ll be back with his Lilywhites team-mates for a match-day today, even if it’s just for today.
You could actually make an argument that Gazzaniga is a better goalkeeper than Hart, who had a bit of a stinker in the 3-3 draw with LASK on Thursday.
In fact, the former Saints stopper produced a number of brilliant performances last season when Lloris was out – one game at Anfield springs to mind.
A lot of Tottenham supporters would prefer to see him over Hart, but the bench is what he’ll need to settle for if the Frenchman is indeed absent.
