Tottenham Hotspur have already signed one central defender this summer in the form of Crisian Romero.
But if rumours are believed, Fabio Paratici might be doubling down.
According to The Times, Spurs are now keen on a £55 million move for Villarreal powerhouse Pau Torres.
And if he does wind up joining Tottenham, it may be the beginning of the end for Eric Dier.
Bad news
The England international might be the weakest of all the Lilywhites’ central-defensive options, behind Romero, Davinson Sanchez and even Joe Rodon.
And although Dier is a very versatile player, holding midfield, his natural position, is no good to him either.
That’s because Olvier Skipp is set to stay at Tottenham this season to cover Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, fresh off the back of his brilliant performances on loan at Norwich City last season.
Even though he isn’t the most popular player among Lilywhites fans, Dier has been a wonderful servant for the North London club down the years.
But whether it’s in central defence or defensive midfield, Dier’s importance is very much on the decline as it is – and signing Torres might well finish him off entirely.
